A mobile fitness application developed for a Canadian fitness business looking to give its members an easier way to manage their workouts, book classes, and stay connected with the gym outside of regular visits.
The client had an active member base, but many everyday fitness services still depended on the gym's website, front desk, or separate booking processes. Members had to use different channels to check class availability, book sessions, access their workout plans, and manage their membership information. For staff, this also meant handling a steady stream of routine requests that could otherwise be managed digitally. The client wanted a mobile experience that felt simple enough for everyday use while still supporting the practical needs of both members and staff. The challenge was to build more than just a workout tracker — the app needed to connect the member journey, from planning a workout and booking a class to keeping track of progress over time.
The existing member journey was mapped to understand how people currently booked classes, accessed workout information, and interacted with the fitness centre.
The mobile experience was designed around the most frequently used actions, giving members quick access to workout plans, class schedules, bookings, and their membership information.
A secure backend was developed to connect member accounts, class schedules, bookings, and workout data, keeping information synchronized between the app and the business's existing systems.
The application was tested across different devices and user flows before launch, with particular attention given to booking, account management, and the areas members would use most frequently.
The app has made everyday things much easier for our members. Class bookings and workout information are now available in one place, and our staff aren't spending as much time handling requests that members can manage themselves.
